If you involve them, they will come. There are so many activities vying for teenagers' time and energy - sports, academics, social life - it is a wonder that teens ever get to church and mostly they complain they are bored But here at Second Church, our youth are active participants and members of the church. Those who play musical instruments are invited to play for the offertory. Recently, a quartet played Were You There for our Palm Sunday Communion. Our liturgical dancers choreograph their own sacred dances and perform them at services throughout the year. Most recently, the troupe performed an extraordinary piece to the song I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me. Even the youngest is given the opportunity to read the Call to Worship, engage the scripture and collect the offertory. Children and Youth have an equal share in the leading of worship as well as other opportunities for contributing to the life of the church. They have no doubt that they are valued, respected and equal members in the life of the community. |
